P/T position (3-4 days/week June – September)
Rate: £25/hr
Reporting to: North Brixton Big Local
Ref: NBBL/P4O1

North Brixton Big Local in partnership with Lambeth and the VCS is seeking to recruit someone with community research experience, who can hit the ground running and has capability to work with the diverse community in Angell Town and Loughborough estates and surrounding areas in North Brixton. The candidate will also require excellent project management skills to quickly work within a short period of time testing how social infrastructure and local relationships can be used in changing perceptions of heat risk, recommended vulnerability mitigations and prompting action.

In the summer of 2022, the UK and London experienced a period of prolonged hot weather. Lambeth in particular, temperatures in some parts of the borough exceeded 40C and council implemented measures to respond to this ‘heat emergency’. Under extreme heat conditions, it was necessary to get people to recognise their vulnerability, risks and to take appropriate action.

This project will help gain insights into how a Local Authority and the VCS can help vulnerable residents at risk from extreme summers and build resilience in communities.
